Requirement

Blackpool Magic Convention had been unable to source an off the shelf solution which provided the flexibility needed for their complex show, convention and exhibitor ticket sales.

A custom process was required to allow customers to purchase single, multi-day or VIP tickets to the convention, while choosing show times and seats for each individual day as well as additional upgrade options.

BMC also wished to migrate the previously manual process of Exhibitor Stand sales into the system, allowing exhibitors to book stands entirely online while also reserving seats for shows held across the weekend.

STCS worked with client stakeholders and our design partner to conduct an in-depth discovery, documenting detailed requirements and designing an MVP system which could be launched to tight timescales.  The new system was developed iteratively, concentrating on the essential key functionality which would provide the most benefit to customers, and ensuring that a viable system could be deployed ready for the upcoming convention year.  Extensive testing was conducted to refine the potentially complex checkout process, with UX/UI considered throughout.

In addition to the front end ticket sales, a fully custom backend administration app provided the client with the means to manage both ticket and exhibition stand sales, with full reporting capability.

Outcomes

The resulting system has been in use for two convention years, driving increased ticket sales from both public customers and exhibitors. A dramatic reduction in manual administration processes has allowed the client to focus attention on growing the convention and increasing customer satisfaction.  Further optimisations of the system have been planned with increased functionality and integration with external 3rd party systems.
