Requirement

This project was undertaken through the Newcastle University Brokerage framework agreement, with STCS required to provide additional developer resources to augment the existing MCI team. Our remit was to assist with development of MCI Phase 2 enabling the automation of Marketing Data to support the PG Reimagined Project and the development of new online prospectus for Postgraduate Courses.

The main focus of the project was to establish a ‘single source of truth’ for course data which could then be managed within MCI by various stakeholders/data owners. Data feeds are imported from various disparate systems into MCI and we were tasked with developing the data structures and user interfaces required for largely non-technical University staff to manage that data going forward.

Development of the user interfaces followed an agile iterative process, involving regular demonstrations with end users to address UX considerations and to determine the most suitable location for different data elements and how they should be displayed to the user. We were required to employ existing design components to ensure a consistent design and user experience were achieved across all web pages.  Ease of data management was a key consideration and particular attention was given to how, when and where data elements could be amended by different user groups.

Outcomes

The new system was successfully rolled out in January 2021 and we assisted with knowledge transfer to allow the Newcastle University IT team to assume general day to day support for the platform with STCS available for additional 3rd line support.

Key Tasks:

Requirement

This project was undertaken through the Newcastle University Marketing DPS framework, with STCS required to provide developer resources to work alongside University staff responsible for content and marketing on the new website.

The requirement was to redevelop the HaSS website in the current Newcastle University design framework and migrate to version 8 of the TerminalFour CMS. This was the first TerminalFour project STCS had worked on and so at the beginning of the project we undertook full training covering T4 and the University’s Design and Web Standards frameworks.

Ahead of the project starting, the HaSS team had spent significant time developing the IA for the new site as well as reviewing, rationalising and producing content using the GatherContent platform.  STCS were responsible for development of the web pages in T4, determining the best T4 components to display different types of content and liaising with the inhouse team regarding content, image and page layout changes. This followed a largely agile process with newly developed pages submitted to the University team for approval and sign-off.

Outcomes

The new website was successfully launched on schedule in August ’22, following a full site review conducted by the University’s Web department, and having passed various accessibility compliance checks.
