Sandcastle Waterpark is the UK’s largest indoor waterpark located at the south end of Blackpool’s Golden Mile, an extremely popular tourist attraction open all year round offering 18 rides and attractions.

Since 2012 STCS have partnered with Halogen Creative to provide a full-stack digital service to Sandcastle Waterpark for the design, development and support of a number of core systems including bespoke booking platform and admin system.

Requirement

To improve digital integration across the business Sandcastle Waterpark required the redevelopment of their online presence, ticket sales systems and administration systems.  STCS worked in collaboration with Halogen Creative to provide the full solution from design to development including a fully responsive CMS driven website, bespoke online ticket booking system and staff administration system, all interfaced with the Waterpark’s on-site till systems.

Bespoke e-commerce functionality was developed that could handle complex ticket sales transactions which adhered to strict safety regulations regarding adult-to-child ratios, while allowing the purchase of additional products and add-ons within a single basket.

Due to the covid pandemic Sandcastle were forced to control visitor numbers and needed to migrate their entire business from full-day entry to a timed session model.  STCS were tasked with assessing the system and process changes required to achieve this and by following an agile iterative development process, successfully delivered the project on time to allow the Waterpark to re-open.

Outcomes

Due to the success of the session based model Sandcastle were able to increase visitor numbers while still adhering to strict safety requirements.  Additional products and services were added to the ticket sales system allowing more transactions to be completed entirely online, increasing revenue while freeing up staff time and streamlining the customer admissions process onsite.

As the website, ticket sales and admin systems are critical to Sandcastle’s business, we continue to provide a call-off support service to attend to any issues and undertake preventative maintenance tasks.
