Targeted Lung Health Check Manager

Targeted Lung Health Check Manager

TLHC Manager is an online system that makes it easier for the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) team to manage patients through the stages of the programme. It automates tasks, reducing admin time for clinical staff as well as increasing data accuracy and provides a whole host of other benefits.

TLHC Manager was designed and developed in collaboration with Newcastle Gateshead TLHC programme team (largest phase 1 pilot site).

Requirement

Initially approached for Analyst resource to gather IT requirements for a new screening pilot that would help to identify early-stage lung cancer in patients across Newcastle and Gateshead.  This required our Analyst to familiarise themselves with the screening programme pathway before identifying user needs and system requirements, followed by the creation of process and data flows, and a detailed review of potential solutions.

Following the Discovery, STCS were commissioned to deliver the bespoke solution.  We provided a Project Manager and team of developers and tester to design, develop, test and rollout the bespoke solution.  An agile approach delivered the core solution for the launch of the programme, which evolved over an 18-month period as the programme expanded.

Outcomes

The system is now complete and we provide 1st to 3rd line support for the Newcastle Gateshead programme. The programme has since been announced as a national initiative and we are working with Cancer Alliances to establish how this system can be customised to support their expansion plans.

Key Tasks:

Requirements Elicitation

Project Management

Agile Design and Development

Ongoing Support and Development

” STCS provided us with project and development capacity to scope out the requirements of our system and to build it. Their Project Manager was quick to understand the complexities of the project when they first came on board. STCS have been responsive to changes required throughout the build, often turning around requests in just a matter of hours or days when needed.

Users of the system all report how easy it is to use in comparison with other patient management systems they’ve used; that’s not to say, however, that the logic which sits behind the system is simple, and STCS have built a system for us which manages complex information and safety nets patients at different points in the care pathway, reducing manual work and human error. STCS have engaged with Trust Departments and external partners when needed on different aspects of the build, offering novel solutions to problems when tried and tested methods couldn’t be used (for example, building automated letters into our system when existing solutions couldn’t be used in the way needed). ”

” Thank you STCS for the professional and comprehensive work which you have undertaken with the Staffordshire Targeted Lung Health Check. You came to us with an understanding of the programmes operational requirements and Quality Standards but whilst undertaking the detailed Process Mapping you quickly adapted to our individual and specific complexities.

You have brought knowledge, reassurance and humour to what could have been a very difficult adoption of a new system. Migrating over 35,000 records, endless hours of work and numerous trust partners to align with. This has been a mammoth undertaking but you were constantly responsive and available. Our patients and us now benefit from a responsive, safe and intuitive screening database. We look forward to growing our programme with you close at hand. ”
